The global Covid-19 pandemic has revealed the multiple and interrelated crises - social, economic and ecological - that we were already living in and through. Our experience of the virus has revealed the faultlines of inequality, discrimination and injustice at home and across the globe. We have all experienced a huge rhythmic shift, reshaping the ways in which we live and work and perhaps refocusing the lenses through which we see the world.

As ethnologists, folklorists, creative practitioners and community workers, how do we make sense of these changing contexts, and what is the role and significance of ethnological work in this ever-shifting landscape?

What is the relationship between academic research and community-based, socially engaged practice, and how do we navigate between these worlds? Is it to contribute to new knowledge, or to make a difference to the lives of the people we are working alongside? Is this a dichotomy, or is there a more nuanced way to look at the interplay between academia, communities and activism?

What can we do to build and nurture our FEECA networks here in Scotland and with others across the globe, not only during the Covid-19 pandemic, but once it is over?
